The Right Campsite (and what it protects)

• Is hidden and can’t be seen from the trail (solitude for your group and for fellow visitors)

• Is not right next to water and always at least a football field away from lakeshores and streams. When in Doubt, Step it Out - take about 100 good steps from lakeshores and streams. (water quality, soils, vegetation, wildlife)

• Is on a durable surface such as dry grasses, rock, sand, snow (soils & vegetation)

• Doesn’t get modified by moving rocks, breaking branches or digging trenches (soils & vegetation)

• Appears unchanged when you leave
